Title: New DBA update received
Post by cathyh on 03/16/04 at 12:12:43

I just received a new update disc from DBA Manufacturing, 2004.1 with Pervasive Version 8.  Do I Install this or will you have a new update soon which covers this?

Lynn (ISTS) does not have a relationship with Pervasive. DBA maintains the relationship with Pervasive and the associated licensing. If you want to use version 8 of Pervasive then you would need to install. Bew aware that this will probably overwrite most of the ISTS programs.

Is this a good idea?  Is anyone else using version 8 and is there an advantage?  If I did install this would a reinstall of the complete IS update/upgrade work to get back the IS advantage?

I would recommend that you wait until ISTS has had a chance to compare the code on this standard release to their code and then to release a version that would include the DBA changes as well as the ISTS stuff.

I suggest you install the Pervasive update to version 8 but if you are an IS Tech Subscriber, DO NOT install the update to DBA version 2004.1, it is (as far as I know) nothing more than the DBA 2002.4 plus the bug fixes they posted back in July of 2003.  That is already included in the IS Tech Support updates so there is nothing to be gained by installing the 2004.1

Thanks, Lynn that sounds good to me.  The one thing I am wondering about though with the Pervasive V8 installation is whether or not the Pervasive file in DBA that we use to install pervasive on the client workstations will be updated with the Pervasive install.  OR is that part of the 2004.1 installation?  It seems to me that I will have to reinstall Pervasive on each workstation with this new version installed on the server.

Once you install Pervasive 8 to the server, you should have a PVSW\CLIENTS\WINDOWS or some similarly named folder on the server you can use to install the workstations.  Unless Pervasive 8 is dramatically different from prior versions.

Also, I am not sure what instructions came with the CD but again, if it is like prior versions, there should be folders on the CD named WORKGROUP, WINNT and NOVELL and in each of those folders a SETUP.EXE that you would run to install the appropriate version of Pervasive.

I did get a chance to look at the DBA 2004.1 CD today and confirmed that what DBA is calling 2004.1 is nothing more than 2002.4 with the bug fix patches from their web sitethrough 7/15/03 and the 2004 payroll tax tables plus minor changes to CS-O and PI-A.  No other programming changes have been made by DBA.  The CS-O and PI-A changes have been rolled into the current IS Tech update so the update I am putting together now will be designated as version 2004.1 with IS Tech Support Update 3/12/04.
