I was trying to look at password data ( see another thread under TAS EVO) and found that the data exists only in the default company, not my WG company that we use. I made an ODBC connection to the data but came up with no files when I connected in excel. I assume this is a problem with DDF files. I assumed they were already there. How do I get them?

UT-A, Program name: ODBCDDF. This creats the DDF files for all of the OTHER companies. Then you need to set up a seperate ODBC connection to go to each compnay you want to connect to.

Do you mean by OTHER all the companies except default? My "problem" is that the BKSLEVEL and BKSYUSER only exist in the default (B) and the demo(B99) company. There are no files with the extension BWG. So to look at these I need DDF's for the default. Do these exist or can I make them with ODBCDDF?

The password files only need to exist in the default company. Regardless which company you are in, the password restrictions come from the Default company.

I guess that is my problem. When using Access to link to a table in my company, the tables are not there because they reside in the default company. I have established an odbc connection to the default company, but I don't see any data files to choose. What if anything do I do next?

If you don't see the table names when you try to create either a new link or import, then there is something wrong with your ODBC connection. You did not set it up correctly.

Well, I am connecting to Default Db which is the only choice besides DemoData other than my company and my test company. The Default Company is set up in ODBC just like my other company data and it works fine. I even went to the default company and ran the odbcddf program. Nothing changed. When I try an excel query, it says the data source contains no visible tables. If I look in Maintain database, I can see that most of the files have no records. Still, I must be connected to the wrong data but I have looked on the server and default database is named Default DB. I am stumped.

Nevermind, of course you were right, Lorne. I redid the ODBC engine and though it's a mystery how I had set it up, when I set it up again it worked. I think I was not pointing correctly to the default company ddf's.
Of course the whole point of this exercise is moot since the data I want isn't going to make any sense anyway. Thanks for all your input, Lorne! :)
