Title: Bar Code Shipping Module
Post by gtladmin on 09/18/07 at 13:21:51

(ooohhhh.....freshly minted.....)  8-)

Anyone tried their hand at using the Bar Code Shipping module from the 7/14 update?  Walter here is wanting to try it and I was hoping for any insights before we get started with trying it out.

Ummm, also, where is it on the menus once you install the 7/14 update?

Thanks in advance!

Val

If you log in as ADMIN after installing the 7/14 update, there is a new HH (HandHeld) section that contains the Scan & Ship program.  I just got the small screen versions of WO-G and WO-P with label printing to test; they look good so far.  Physical count is next (in time for year end inventory) and PO Receiving after that.

I am still nagging the IT manager about issuing me a handheld  >:(

It has its own menu bar named Handheld with two buttons! Looks like fun.

One more thing.  If you want to set up a user for the small screen menu, log into their workstation/profile as a regular Evo user and go to UT-A, program EVODCSETUP.RWN.  That will set up ISTSDC folder with the TASPRO7.INI file calling the small screen DC Menu and create a desktop icon.

Is this only for EVO or does a Classic user have access to this module?

Ummm...there's no documentation whatsoever on how it works. Anything anyone can send along to give us a helping hand?

Thanks!

I am working on the documentation now & will send you something Val.  The scan and pack program prompts for Sales Order Number, then you scan part numbers from bar code labels as items are packed and the program confirms the items going into the box are in fact for that order and releases the order for invoicing.

The programs can be run on a full screen but you will see they only take a small corner of the screen because they are designed for the small screen.

They are Evo only because thay have to have the GUI screen but a classic user could add Evo DC seats to use this module while remaining in Classic for the other users.

Excellent!  We (actually Walter) can't wait to try this!  Thanks, Lynn!

Can we add to this module the ability to add in the shipping costs, shipping company and tracking # as a part of this process?  That's something Accounting has to manually type in when releasing the orders, otherwise they still have to go in and manually do the releasing to at least get that info input.  They need the shipping entered for the invoicing.

It's pretty slick the way it works.  If all the info were there, it would be a matter of running a released orders report and then jumping right to invoicing.

Actually, if I can find the time to get the rest of the UPS & FedEx stuff working, namely feeding the freight and tracking # back into Evo, we probably don't need that added in!  Ah, time is a luxury......

Knee jerk: these programs sound cool and could speed up some processes

Whiplash: this means having a handheld with a scanner... can anyone recommend what to look at? It also means barcoding more things, like parts bins and sales orders(?) to reap the benefits.

We're looking at trying to squeeze in the barcodes on our sales orders--they are unfortunately very tight right now, so it's going to be a bit of work redoing those RTMs.  We're going to be usiing with just the bar code scanners and no handhelds since we are so small and everything is pretty much done right in front of the computers.

Does anyone know if there is a master list of compatible scanners / pda's?  I just sold my soul to Qwest for 2 more years of my home cell phone service.  It is a Mogul 6800 and it has infrared.  Would this work for Evo or at least DBA Classic?  I'd be eager to try this out.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

The infrared you refer to is a IRDA data port, not a bar code scanner.

Unless you have an application that runs on this phone that uses the camera
to read bar codes.  See THIS (http://theponderingprimate.blogspot.com/2005/09/camera-phones-read-barcodes-by.html).  (not really applicable to DBA/EVA)
