Title: ODBC, PSQL, Linux
Post by Kelloggs on 03/17/08 at 09:20:55

We have a Linux Intranet Server that runs on ubuntu and uses pervasive 8.X client.

We are planning to upgrade our Pervasive Server to Version 10

Do you know if from Linux/Pervasive Client 9.5 you can connect to PSQL V10?

It doesn't on the surface sound like a good idea...

They've got a 10.10 beta out now that seems to support a linux client. Will that work for you?

Yes, it does works. You can connect PSQL V9 on an ubuntu server to a PSQL V10 on a windows server.

On a side note, I did manage to run EVO on Winxp workstation connected to an ubuntu server via samba. But there are some weird errors, so I gave up, all TAS related I believe.

By the way, psql on a ubuntu server runs very well and very fast.

I keep notes of the entire installation process, if you want them, email me.

Something to put on my resume anyways  :-X

Just to be sure I have this right:

You are saying that connecting linux as a client to a windows Pervasive server works fine but that using linux as the server and windows as the client does not?

The Pervasive Server on Ubuntu runs very well.
I created a Database using dbmaint, then copy the DBAMFG/Default to the /usr/local/psql/data/EVO
The PSQL V9 did not have any issues, and I was able to query the database both from a linux client and a windows client.

A query that takes 10 seconds on a Windows Server, takes on Linux 5 seconds, about half as an average.

----------------

I did setup a Windows Workstation connected to Pervasive on a Linux Server, and I was able to run Evo via samba (The entire DBAMFG directory was on Linux)
Lots of "Access Violation...." all of them pointing to tp7runtime.exe, especially when posting Work Orders and PO's

It was a good learning experience, but it is not worth the trouble. EVO has enough issues as it is.

;)
