Title: Pervasive  and ODBC requiring password
Post by PamB on 04/29/08 at 10:16:42

I am a newbie, and our company is using the old version of DBA.

I'm trying to connect to the DBA tables either via Pervasive or ODBC.  I can get to the point where I can see the tables, but then I am being asked for a password.  No one here knows of any password, and I've tried the normal Admin stuff.   Is there a generic password, or a way around this?

My IT guy can't figure it out either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
PamB

Pervasive OBDC sometimes requires the server Administrator  name and server Admin password in order to connect.

1. What Version of the Pervasive Database software are you using?

2. Is it the Client/Server or Workstation product?

3. Are you using the DDF files created by ODBCDDF (off menu) utility for your ODBC data source?

The DDF files created by ODBCDDF do not have security enabled by default for Pervasive 2000 and up.

Hello,
Here is are the answers to your questions:

1. What Version of the Pervasive Database software are you using? Version 9.5

2. Is it the Client/Server or Workstation product? Client/Server

3. Are you using the DDF files created by ODBCDDF (off menu) utility for your ODBC data source? I want to use ODBC data source (live) so I can get into the tables if I need to.

Thank You for your help!
Pam

Check out THIS (http://www.istechforum.com/YaBB.pl?num=1046815804/4#4)thread.  It provides instructions to create an ODBC data source with the Client/Server Pervasive.

There my be some minor differences between it and your version 8.5, but they should be minor.

The basic process to create an ODBC data source is:
1. Run ODBCDDF from DBA.  (in Classic, use UT-A, and enter ODBCDDF as the program to run)
2. Create an Engine ODBC data source on the server that points to the newly created DDF files
3. Create a Client ODBC data source on the Client Machine that points to the Engine data source created above

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for all of your help!

I'm running the ODBCDDF, and I'm getting a BTRIEVE warning error on all files it's going through- is this normal?

thanks,
Pam

What does the error say?

(Please consider setting up a Signature (similar to mine below) with
your DBA and Pervasive Version information.  This really helps people
help each other.)

Hello,

I have added my signature below, please let me know if I need to include any more information.

The error message I receive is M:\Dbamfg\DEFAULT\FILE.DDF-46

I get an error message for each file the program is trying to access, so I have to keep pressing enter until the whole job is complete.

Thanks,
Pam

Pam,
I have never seen any error messages when running ODBCDDF.  It looks like it cannot write to the DDF files in the DEFAULT folder.  Try removing all ODBC data sources you have defined that are pointing to the M:\Dbamfg\DEFAULT folder.  If something
else is using the DDF files, ODBCDDF will not be able to write to them.

Error 46 means that access to the requested file was denied. I think that KevinD is correct. Remove all ODBC data sources that refer to your DBA installation. Maybe even reboot for good measure. Then try to create the DDF files again.
