Title: Adding W-2 to file
Post by David Waldmann on 02/08/10 at 12:44:46

Is this possible? We used an outside payroll service for a couple years and changed back to DBA 4th quarter. We had an employee leave at the end of 2nd quarter, and it never occurred to add them into DBA for the W-2. I manually created a W-2 for the employee, but now I need to create or update the W-2 to file with the IRS and state. So I have two questions:

1. It is my understanding the W-2s are supposed to be in either SSN or LastName/FirstName order. Is that a must-have, or is that from the olden days when record keeping was done by gerbils?
2. If they do NEED to be in order, I will need to insert this one W-2 into my list. Is there any practical way to do this? I added the employee, expecting I would then be able to "Edit W-2 data" for that employee, but no go. Worst case scenario is that I manually create all the W-2s from that employee (actually, one previous) forward. Thankfully the guy is relatively near the end of the alphabet, so I would "only" have to do 9...

Use Maintain Database on the BKPRW2 file and create a record for the employee.  Then you can use the Edit W2 data to fill in the info.
