Title: Shortcut keys, i.e. F2, F10
Post by David Waldmann on 04/13/12 at 05:45:26

I'm hoping to go to all the latest GUI menus to take advantage of as much of Evo's improvements as possible. However, I am finding that the F2 for Lookup and F10 to Save don't work on all the screens/locations. Use of the keyboard for common, repetitive tasks is extremely efficient IMO and I would really hate to lose any part of that. Are there plans to add that functionality?

The problem is that in the "old" programs, it was a generic standard so no specific programming was needed.  In the new GUI world, every field is an object and whatever behavior that object needs to exhibit needs to be explicitly programmed.

We know that F2 as Lookup is a shortcut you are used to and we try to incorporate it.  We are also (in the interest of minimizing the requirement to switch between keyboard and mouse) using Alt-{character} keyboard shortcuts as do many other Windows programs.  For example, Alt-P is Print; Alt-S is Save and Alt-X is Exit.  What used to be up and down arrow between fields is Windows standard Tab and Shift-Tab.

For F10, I think you need to try to adjust to Alt-P (Print) or Alt-S (Save) because they are really different functions.

Ah yes, I see the Underlined Letters now. Thanks, that will be a help.

Any tips on getting from the Line screen back to the Header (SO, PO, Quote)?

What does GUI stand for?
I think GUI is another view option as opposed to classic DBA view option .   If that is true when folks say that non-GUI they are referring to the classic view.
But I believe there is more to it than that because when I scanned the archives it seemed that some tasks worked better in the classic view while others task work better in the GUI view.

Thanks
Laura

GUI just means Graphical User Interface (as opposed to text based).

The two screen layouts are both GUI in the T7 versions, i.e. you can use the mouse to go where you want.

I believe the two screen types are referred to as Classic and Evo, and it is only the layout that's different (Evo ones have smaller windows, and use "tabs" to group the info, whereas Classic show everything on on page).
