Title: Inventory Effectivity Date
Post by MikeT on 06/14/12 at 09:29:47

It would be GREAT if Evo had the ability to put an effectivity date on any inventory changes. The way it would work is:
1. Engineering makes a change to an existing product
2. They enter in a date that the change goes into affect. I would imagine the inventory item would have changes on a certain date such as a change in the item link picture/dimensions/price/ etc
3. The old revision of the part stays current in Evo until the effectivity date when the updates will be filtered down into production.
This would allow us to use the old part revision with other older part revisions to match up. The way we currently have to operate is to make the changes immediately and scrap any parts already made and sitting in the warehouse because they may be incompatible with the existing inventory of other parts in a certain assembly. We would DEFINITELY see a cost savings with this ability if it were possible.

When we have a change to a drawing for a part in inventory and have the potential to end up with two different but useable parts under the same item number; and need to know which version was used where, we do the following.
Temporarily put the part under lot control, with the lot numbers being the revision levels of the part. There is a note placed on the item to issue the old revision first and that when the old revision is complete to remove lot control from the item. The revision listed in IN-B for the item is the new revision, and the link goes to the new revision so that any ordering that takes place is done at the latest revision. As parts are issued to work orders, a lot number is required so traceabilty is achieved.
Don't know if this could work for you, but we use it quite a bit as our parts are frequently changing and we do not want to add items and change BOMs.
