Title: geting rid of old data to make everyday use faster Post by Laura Oliver on 06/18/12 at 07:36:41 I am trying to get rid (archive, purge etc) to make everyday use of DBA faster. I would appreciate any hints. Heres what I have done so far: 1) made two new companies which are exact replicas of the DBA we have used everyday since 1997/ a) named one company (#57) "BUP 1997-2012" b) named the 2nd copy (#12) "Dixie Precision 2012" 2) changed all users to where they all have access to company #12. but or course I have access to #12 and #57 3) my goal is to archive or purge all data in company #12 that is before Jan 1, 2010 (this way my folks are wading thru 3 yrs of data rather than 15 years of data. I am still in the middle of this process, as I have only archived 18,000 work orders and purged some closed sales orders. I plan on using archiving and purging everything I can during this next month. I am looking for any help, ideas, hints , warings, etc. Thanks, Laura |
Title: Re: geting rid of old data to make everyday use fa Post by Laura Oliver on 06/18/12 at 13:46:46 Now I find that when I go into maintain database I see 4 sets of files: company B company 12 company 57 company 99 but I couldnt get into them because I kept getting a status 35 directory error, but I found where someone else had this problem and Lynn had told them to run MDBFXREG in UT-A. **** Weird this fixed Mainitain Database where I could acess it on some of my workstations buy not all of my workstations. But after I reset my server, I can now access it on all my workstations. |

Title: Re: geting rid of old data to make everyday use fa Post by Laura Oliver on 06/18/12 at 17:08:25 Here is a problem that I found. A copied company may not retain the "save settings" even though the defaults and passwords and security levels stay the same. It was necessary for me resave some of the "save settings" |
Title: Re: geting rid of old data to make everyday use fa Post by Lynn_Pantic on 06/18/12 at 19:11:54 Save Settings has 2 levels - Personal and Global. If you save Personal settings, it saves them on the workstation and the programs look there first so it will override any Global settings. If you save Global settings, it will only see them if Personal Settings do not exist. |
