How often should standard costs get updated?

Do I have to manually update IN-L-A each time we make a purchase?
Is there not someway it is automatically updated?

Should my standard cost always reflect the last purchase and its respective freight cost.
If last week we bought a 100 lbs at 2.13 per pound and frt is .10 per pound then the standard cost was $2.23 per pound.
But yesterday I bought a 100 lbs at 2.2o per pound and frt is .11 per pound now the standard cost is $2.32 per pound.

If I have to do it manually thru IN-L-A .... do I need to do it with each purchase?

Standard is a benchmark and should be updated as frequently as you deem necessary. Some people update standards quarterly, some annually. It depends what you use it for.
