Title: Java stuff not loading (Java8 on Win7/x64)
Post by AndyOB on 04/20/15 at 12:16:02

Started running Java reports, but on my workstation I'm getting...

Code:
c:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath\JAVA.EXE

Unspecified error

(OK)

What's strange is the java stuff is working if I run it from the server (Win2k3 Server, possibly Java 7 JRE?).

Suggestions?

You must not be on our latest version.  Beginning with (I think) 2014.1 and certainly 2015.1 all our Java calls explicitly call the java.exe in the java\bin subfolder under the DBAMFG or EVOERP folder (as applicable) so the one in Program Files shouldn't be loading at all and in fact Java doesn't even need to be installed on the machine.

We're still on 2013.1, so I guess it's broken for now, or can I just move java.exe to the java/bin folder on the server?

Java is a "client side" application.
It is not server side. If something is broken is the workstation.

Not according to Lynn's response, if you read her first reply.

If you copy your WINWORD.EXE or EXCEL.EXE to a network drive. It will work.
That does not make MS Office a server side application.

By the way,

Javascript, client-side.
Java Server Pages, server side.
Java Runtime, client-side.
Javabeans, server side.

AndyOB,

I did some testing with Java Runtime Version 8 Update 45.
Everything works fine.

Looks like Runtime 7 is the problem
Remove 7, reboot , install 8, reboot

Should be fine.

Java does not need to be installed at all.  Our update puts an uninstalled copy of Java into the JAVA folder under the DBAMFG or EVOERP folder and our JDBC programs explicitly call the JAVA.EXE located in that path.  It works without any actual installation, no registry settings and your browser doesn't know it is there so there are not security vulnerabilities.

Thanks Lynn, gonna update to 2015.1, or try to, tonight, hopefully all the java issues will clear up then.

Let's clarify something here.

When you install pervasive (client or server) it will install its own java runtime
DBA does not need a java installation, but there are users that need to install their own java runtime.

If you install a java runtime on your own sometime you could have a conflict.
Either your Pervasive Control Panel will not work or Evo's java apps.

It is bad enough that we have to deal with TAS, now java as well.

I guess does it why I get the big bucks, hehehe
