Title: Backup and Restore
Post by Kelloggs on 11/30/15 at 11:49:54

When was the last time you tried to restore the entire \DBAMFG folder?

To our surprise our backup software (BackupAssist) did not backup any *.DDF
I believe because they were locked, meaning someone left DBA/EVO open.

If you dont have the FIELD.DDF per example, Nothing is going to work. You could be in trouble like I am right now.

I just wanted to let you know.......

We have two backup programs.

We use Yosemite to back up to a removable hard drive, and SOS Backup goes to the cloud. SOS sends me an email after every backup and shows how many/much was backed up, along with a list of any fies (up to 20) NOT backed up, and the reason.

I have never seen any DDFs in the list, so I guess I'm good. But I will double check...

Backups are like insurance. Worthless until you need it.

DBA does not use any DDF files other than for Maintain Database and Evo does not use them other than the handful of JDBC programs and they are easily recreated.

Cut and paste the FILELOC.* somewhere else, see if you can start EVO.
Especially the fileloc.mdx

Make sure that your software is backing up all those "hidden" files :

*.DDF
*.MDX
*.UDP
FILE*.*

FILELOC.* is required, I agree but the files with DDF extensions are not required to load either DBA or Evo.
