Title: Windows 10 Network Issues. . .
Post by TGerak on 07/18/16 at 12:40:18

Is anyone having networking issues when using Windows 10?  I have about half of our machines running Evo on Windows 10.  A couple of machines are experiencing networking issues that break the connection with server.  I checked network adapter power settings, and that is not the issue.  There are a series of errors.  One of the most common is a codebase error #-70 and 90621.  The issue seems to happen when Evo was left unattended for a period of time.

With the "Free" Windows 10 deadline coming up, I don't want to fight connectivity issues is there is a solution.

Thanks.

By default windows 10 ( and even 7) will drop idle connections after a specified time-out period, I think it is 15 minutes by default, to prevent wasting resources.

Google it !!!  here is one solution :

Get rid of the mapped drive and use the full UNC path.

Good thought.  I did some additional research and saw that the disconnection corresponds to Group Policy pushes from the server.  It looks like the mapping gets "Recreated" which disconnects and reconnects.  The mapping can be set to "Update" which doesn't disconnect.  If that change doesn't resolve the issue, we'll switch to full UNC path.

Here's a link to the article I found:

Mapped drives also provide an avenue to the server for some ransomware.  Get rid of them (although getting rid of them is not total protection from ransomware, at least it will block some of them from the server).

That's a great point.  The GP "Update" instead of "Recreate" did resolve the connectivity issue, but the full UNC path sounds like the way to go.

Thanks.
