MRP Requirement
07/23/03 at 15:44:57

Why buy?
Part# x is needed to complete part# y, there is a w/o for for part# x for the amount that y needs. All the components on the w/o for part# x had been issued. W/o for x is not completed is wip.
When MRP is run I get a buy message for the components of part# x, this components are used only on part#x. I don't understand why buy. Can you set me straight.
Thx
JI

Can you cut and paste the MR-G report for a sample component into the posting?  That may indicate what is going on.  What is the BUY pegged to?

What version are you on? This sounds like what we were seeing. There was a bug in the program (I think its fixed in the 71503 DBA service pack)which caused it to plan a new order instead of expediting an existing order. That caused the double requirements that you are seeing. (These buys are pegged to a planned order, but you say that you have a work order for this already. You need to look at the Material Requirements for the parent part. You will probably see both your work order and the planned order.)  The workaround is to change the work order dates to the dates MRP has used for the planned order. Then rerun MRP. The planned order should be gone and so should the buys that were pegged to it.

If you are on 2002.4, I can email you a zip file with the fix in it. Email me privately if you want me to send it.

Somethine else is going on here in the BOM, PL 111 is for a different part number (DRCSET204080) than the parent you are showing for MR-G of the parent (FGBBUCAB1).  The PL111 for DRCSET204080 is pegged to the 1120-7 work order for the FGBBUCAB1.  Are the components duplicated or something?  What does the complete BOM of the FGBBUCAB1 look like?

Oops, looks like I jumped to a conclusion without having enough info. embarrassed  Prior versions of MRP did have a number of different problems. DBA Tech Support has been working on it since at least last December. They sent me several "fixes" some of which were worse than the original problem. But, I have tested the latest files (emailed directly to me by DBA and dated 6/24/03) quite a bit in a test company and now have them installed in our live data. For us, they seem to work well. Your mileage may vary.

Juan, I am sending you the files. If anyone else is interested, contact me for a copy. cpappas@industrialdata.com
