Revision field in Enter Customer Cross-Reference
08/22/03 at 06:27:29

Currently we are using the Customer Description field to store revision levels. This will become a problem soon since we are getting request from customer to place their part descriptions on barcode labels.

There is a drawing revision field in IN-B, but it's not helpful for our customers who use a tabular drawing setup. The drawing may have a table of 50 different parts with individual revision levels.

If we could have a Revision filed in IN-L-C we could have a drawing revision, part revision and part description for our barcoding purposes.  8)

Note: 8 characters would be better than the 5 character field in IN-B because some customers use a date as the revision code.

We have already created a custom for a client that allows an unlimited number of revision levels to be stored for a particular part number.  There is actually a new table for this.  Resides in IN-B.  Also allows a field pre-formatted to dd/mm/yyyy for a revision level as they use that for their own parts.

Available for purchase.....

Thanks Lorne, but I think this would be a simple change to the existing software. I'm not really looking to pay for a customization as light as this.  Wink

I see.  Apparently you are an expert in TAS programming and SQL.  This was NOT in fact an easy change.  Whenever you create new structures (tables) in DBA it is fairly involved.

Also meant changes to forms, most notably the traveler.  That is also a programming effort.

So if it is such a "light" change, why don't you program it for yourself?

Whoa! Sorry if I touched a nerve Lorne!  embarrassed

I was not putting down your efforts; merely trying to point out that I wasn't looking for personal customization on the level that you offered. I was hoping that Lynn's programmer would be able to make a change that would help everyone.

If it comes down to it - yes, we can do it for ourselves. We have done customizations with TAS, SQL, Crystal Reports and MS Access.

There is an "Extra" field in the file used for customer cross-reference.  I think the best approach would be to add the ability to enter data to this field as "User Defined" in IN-L-C so it could be a second description line, revision level, or whatever else anybody chose to use it for.   It is a 50 character field.

Thanks  Lynn!  Smiley

We knew those fields were in several of the tables but we weren't sure if they were there for us or DBA's programmer.

What about the revision field in IN-B? I've noticed that field length has been increased in other screens in past DBA updates. Could this one be bumped up to 8 characters?
