Alternate views of BOM
12/02/03 at 10:18:00

Hello,

We are a small process manufacturing firm starting to implement DBA.  We are utilizing BOM for our formulas and are entering our components in parts per UM.  Is there any way to view the components in terms of percentage when printing BOM reports?
i.e. Chemical XYZ 35% instead of Chemical XYZ 0.35

Thanks for all of your help.

I realize that Crystal Reports and Access are popular answers to questions like these, but are there alternatives within DBA?  Or does anyone know of an add on?

The only solution that I know of is that Ezijobz allows formulas to be created and with the Item Characteristics capability that is applicable to each item, you could designate characteristics that would be percentages.

You would have to do a very small custom change (which in Ezijobz is NOT done at the code level) to make the UoM field on the printed report a percentage comparative value field rather than a straight numerical value field.

The difference is that Ezijobz is designed to be able to handle that sort of thing "out-of-the-box". DBA is not.

Actually I recall doing an add-on several years ago (forget now who it was for) that not only displayed the .35 as a % of the 1.00 total but also ensured in BM-A that the total of the component quantities always added to 1.00.  Logic was easy enough if there is interest from process manufacturers, we could add the option to BM-A & B and whatever other reports would neen it.

Lynn,

The problem as I see it is that DBA is not set-up to deal with Process mfg. issues such as by-products, co-products, and the ability to input user-defined formulas. You would need to create ALL of these capabilities throughout the inventory and MRP management system AND tie them in to the sales order system to be able to address the needs properly.

Personally, I don't see that there would be a pay-off.

Just my point of view, of course. Wink
