master level reconciliation
03/01/04 at 10:39:47

Every month before we freeze inventory we do a master level and then transaction level reconciliation.  The transaction level reconciliation is easy to understand- there are rarely any actions needed and usually we can track the error to a specific problem we have had.  The Master level is a different story.  We get pages, 5 or 6 of actions needed and really do not have a clue as to why the records are so off.  A lot of them have to do with units on PO's (a lot of them are negatives) being changed to match open orders.  Others are allocations to open orders that do not match BKICLOC numbers.  Some examples:
BKICLOC   1400013  units on PO this loca chgd from 150 to 300 to match open orders
BKICLOC   1400013   Units in WIP chgd from 101.00 to 116.00 to match open orders
MTICMSTR  1400013   MTICMSTR units in WIP chgd from 101.00 to 116.00 to match BKICLOC total
This last one I get since it is follows the one before.  I jsut don't get what caused the one before! ???

WE have been noticing it for as long as we have been DBA but agreed with the note that we didn't need to know how or why to run the rconciliation.  Of course now we have figured out so much that we didn't used to know that we want to know why about everything.  I understand what DBA is doing, what I don't understand is how the records get messed up in the first place and is there something in our procedures that needs to change?  Or is this just part of 15 people accessing and changing records all at the same time all day long? Cheesy

See additional thread under System Manager Topic.  It is not anything you are doing wrong and the program is not really making errors, at least not mathematical ones.

I think it is a result of different databases and programs being merged to create the DBA program.  Inventory records are not updated automatically when transactions are made.

For example both the BKICMSTR file and the BKICLOC file contain a field for UOH.  Only one of these files is updated when you do something like issue a PO.  The files are reconciled when you (a) Run SM-J-C, (b) Do a screen inquiry in IN-A or (c) Run a report such as IN-D that prompts you to rebuild stock status.

It really doesn't affect your business unless you pull the raw data into reports like Crystal, Access or Excel.

It may affect MRP, I don't know.  Maybe someone else does.
