Discount Sched., customers w/multiple price cod
05/10/04 at 07:07:43

???Hi,

We are trying to create one list or base price, which we have been able to accomplish, using the generate base price feature in DBA. Once we have base prices, we wish to create several discount schedules by product class based on quantity discounts (not dollar value discounts). We have used the Price Codes feature to create a discount schedule based on quantity but it
appears that we must do this for each part number.
We would like to create these discount schedules based on an entire product class.

Is there a way to create these discount schedules by product class rather that by individual product?

Also it appears that each customer must then be
"activated" to these Price Codes in the AR section under Enter Customers.

Can each customer have multiple price codes and can the additional of these price codes to all customers be automated, or de we need to add these multiple codes one at a time to each customers?

We are moving to version 2002.4 (from 2000.1 PF6) soon. Would the newer version have an easier way of doing this, or not?

TIA!

Val

Pricing structure and logic is the same in 2002.4.  You can set up Discount Codes rather than price codes if you have a percent discount per item class - it is easier to maintain than all the separate Price Codes.  Each customer can belong to only one Price Code and only one Discount Code.  So if Customer A gets 30% off on item 1 and 20% off on item 2 then Price Code 1 for item 1 would be 30% off and Price Code 1 for Item 2 would be 20% off.  Price Code 1 does not need to be the same percentage for all items.  It just needs to be whatever the customer gets.

Thanks for the reply, Lynn!

So there's no way to do what we want to by product class?  We have to set up for each individual product?
Can we "automate" this somehow?  Like import the data somehow from say, an excel spreadsheet?

Hi Lynn,

Our CEO says:

Well thanks for the info.  Basically I already knew about the Discount Code and it would be great because it does pricing by item class but it uses a dollar value to create the discount and not a quantity - we really really need quantity, not $ value discounts.

Lynn, is it at all possible to think that we could somehow change this $ value in the discount code to a quantity?  Know of any way to do what we need to do?

Thanks,

Val (& Thom)

Any consultants out there who can help us with this problem?  We are willing to pay for help if there is a solution to our need--we dont' want to waste money if we can't do this.

This is really frustrating.  Time is of the essence here.

Thanks in advance.

If you have to use Price Codes and have a lot of them, I do have an Import Price Code program as an add-on you could use to get them into the file.  See www.isstechsupport.com/addonsales.asp

Grin
Thanks, Lynn.  I sent the info on that program to our CEO and let him know we may want to consider a subscription to get this.  Maybe we'll become a subscriber!

Val,

I'm sorry if this seems rude or presumptuious...but you need CEO level support to buy something that costs $425 for a year???

I cannot understand why there are companies that cannot get their heads straight and spend a tiny (TINY) amount of money to get a pretty decent bang for it!!

If they tried to do the same thing with their equipment, they would likely be out of business in a few months when it all fell apart, but they can't seem to make the connection that IT and IS and related services/consulting/support....etc...is the same...just another form of essential equipment to the business...

OK, stepping down from my soapbox now..... lips sealed

Well, thanks for the rants.  But our new CEO is a pretty reasonable guy, and with the proper justification he'll spend the $$ even though it isn't budgeted.   Grin I have to ask for stuff like this (for nearly anything IT related) because the owner (not the CEO) is the person who's nixed off most of my IT budget--every year.  (Won't get into that any further!)  I am very well acquainted with managing my networks on a shoestring budget.  Sad I hate it, but it's what I've always had to do.

Anyway, I have a question:  we ARE going to subscribe, BTW Grin.  And, I wanted to know if anyone has used the Import Price Codes program and if there's possibly either a demo or more documentation on it that we can see before we buy?  Also, the import sales orders because we have a web store now, are re-doing the web store, and would LOVE to be able to use something like this instead of having to re-enter everything into DBA.

AND, BTW, I have given the CEO enough Ra! Ra! ISTech Support!  Cheesy to get him interested in learning more about the updates offered for DBA as well.

On behalf of the Programming team at ISTECH Support, Thank you for your rants... The more people who sign up the more we can do.

Once you are signed up, Talk to Lynn and ask her about a demo Import price codes...

No there isn't any great documentation out there.

For the WEB Import, we do have a customer using it now,
and last I heard it was working well. It uses the DBA EDI input files and maps. So it is a proven and documented system. Takes a WEB order and enters a SO in DBA.
