Bar Code Scanning for a Sequence
08/23/04 at 11:28:09

I sent a sample traveler to American Microsystems because their laser scanner would not read the bar code for the sequence.  The following was their response:
The barcodes are all too small to be reliably read by any standard barcode scanner. Also the two bottom barcodes have a leading space at the beginning of it. If that is a barcode font on the form, then increase the point size on all 3 by at least 2-4 points (using an even point size).

I do not believe the Modify Forms feature in DBA allows font adjustments to the form. I’ve tried with no success.  But why would this be necessary?  Shouldn’t the default size on the traveler work for scanning?

I do know there are a lot of people out there using Data Collection and scanning sequences using the standard traveler bar code.  And the Modify Forms will allow you to change the properties of the bar code object.

It would be great to hear from them as to what they are using.  I am researching right now for a bar code reader.

I used model 3220, a linear image scanner.
But I have had clients that successfully used the cheaper wand scanners for reading the traveler sequences.

See www.istechsupport.com/ts_mq8.asp for a list of wands that some users have found to work.
