New workstation setup
10/26/04 at 11:53:02

I am setting up a new user workstation on TAS6evo.  The user is set up on the "old" DBA.  The vast majority of our users have limited access in DBA, i.e., they can access IN-A, but not IN-B or IN-C. All of this information is already set up in DBA.  Is there anyway I can transfer his user rights from DBA to TAS6evo?

No, unfortunately you need to generate the new user menu in TAS - G in Evo.

I am in the middle of doing that for all my users and it would be nice to have a report with the access by security level in DBA to be looking at while I amd doing the TAS version.  What is the file that has this information?  I tried BKSYLOG but that didn't give me any data.

Okay.  I made some mistakes on this user and I would like to delete it and start all over again.  This is not going well.  How do you delete a user name from SM-TAS-G Groups/Buttons?

Highlight the cell with the user name you want to delete and hit your delete button. In other words don't highlight the name, but the cell; there will be a dotted line around the cell.  I went around and around with this one too.

Cathy,

The file with the user rights info in DBA is BKSYUSER. You can export, or you can link in through ODBC and use Excel or Access.

Actually, that is not the right file.  BKSLEVEL is the security levels but it is pretty much impossible to make any sense out of the raw data.

Yeah, ooops. Sorry about that. One of the challenges of doing this completely from memory....Smiley

I believe if you link SYUSER and SLEVEL together that would give meaning to the data.

No, it wouldn't.  BKSLEVEL is simply a grid of Y and N that are meaningless without the actual position values of all the different programs in the menu grid.

OK, here's an idea.....why not get Allen to create an export definition that includes all this data AND the headers (the menu names), so it can be output as a comma-delimited and brought up in Excel?

I finally got the ODBC connection working and pulled the two files into Access, and Lynn is right the data is meaningless.  So I am all for Lorne's suggestion though I am sure it is way down on the list of priorities!

Cathy,

You are almost certainly right about the priority. However, I know what is involved to get this added to the export definitions, and ISTS could crank this out with about 4-5 hours of programming effort at the most.

So, maybe it could be done relatively quickly....up to the CEO there.....(hey Lynn-buddy-you listening?..... Grin )
