missing bkmenuw.ary
12/02/04 at 09:29:08

Yesterday our system ran fine - we have 7 users on a peer to peer network- this morning when we try to logon to DBA we get the first logon screen and then we get the message:  The File: BKMENUW.ARY is not in your default path.  When we click on okay it clears the DBA screen back to the desktop.  What can I do.

Do a search for that file in your DBAMFG directory. If you find it anywhere but under the root directory move it back. If you find it nowhere at all, that would usually mean that someone accidentally deleted it. Email Lynn directly and she can send you a new one.

I checked for the file and moved it to the root directory. Now when I log onto DBA if get the following:  Access violation at address 0065AB73 in module Tp5wdba.exe  read address of 00000008.  What now?

Sounds like the file may have gotten damaged.  Reinstall the latest IS Tech update, there is a copy of that menu file in the update.

Can you get START_UP.RUN and TAS50.OVL from a backup - could be a few days or even weeks old, these are not data files.  I have seen those files get damaged and cause Access Violations.

If you don't have a backup, I can email you a TAS50.OVL and you can call DBA and ask them to email you a copy of your START_UP.RUN license file.

I had a back up and copied over both the files and I still get the same access violation when I log on-  what it does when I click on okay at the violation screen is bring me to a DBA menu-acctg. but the module descriptions are all F11, F12, etc.  if I click on any of the selections I just keep getting different acces violations.  I don't know if that info will help at all.

The F1, F2 etc buttons have to do with rights to the folder or can mean the files have been set to Read Only.  Make sure that has not happened.  Since you just got your CD from DBA, you could reinstall a clean new copy, then reinstall the IS Tech updates and copy your data.

Okay, I know how to check the read only for the DBA folder - do I have to check each .run file also, if so is there a quick way to do that or do I have to check each file?  Then, if I do have to reinstall a new DBA I would actually do a new install from my disk (after I rename my existing DBA folder) to my server computer to create the new DBA folder, reinstall the latest IST update and then copy over all my .B files (are the .B all of my data files or is there another extension also)  from my old DBA folder- is that right?  It's been so long since I've had to do this stuff and can't remember.

Please ignore my last reply-  I have done the install of the DBA program ver 2002.4 - I have DBA version running- I need to get my IST update in now-  I downloaded the complete 17  meg update which I assume I have to use rather than the 3 meg incremental-  do I have to run the programs as per instructions for new subscriber? or can I just do the complete update and then copy my data files into DBA

You need the full update and run the UPDFILE to update the data dictionary.  Then copy your company data into the appropriate directory.  I will be checking email tomorrow (if you come in on Saturday to do this) and I will be in the office all day Monday if you need any assistance.
