What do you mean specifically? What sort of "solution" is it that you want?

See http://www.istechsupport.com/ts_mq1.asp - Lorne is quite correct, you need to specify what you want to accomplish with Bar Code - Labor, Material flow, Shipments - need more detail before we can help.

Be very specific as to what you expect to barcode.  I bought scanners only to find out that the work order number is not scannable by all DBA programs.  Hopefully, Lynn is fixing that problem because my boss is wondering why DBA wouldn't be able to scan a WO number during material issuing.  And, he's also questioning my thoroughness of research prior to purchasing scanners.  The only problem is, nowhere in the documentation does it specify where the workorder number can and cannot be scanned!!!

We are re-visiting this issue after considering it quite a while ago and dropping it.  We specifically want to use a barcode reader to enter labor using travelers with bar codes printed on them, so that the employee performing a sequence  can scan in a sequence on one or more work orders, add a start time, and their employee number, and add a stop time when they are done.  We are trying to eliminate the problems with manually recording work order number- sequence- start and stop times by the worker and then the entering of them by different employee.

Cathy,

Any wedge-type bar code reader that reads Code 39 bar codes will work fine for this. Spend the extra money and get the "gun" type versus the "pen" type. You will be forever happy you did.

Cathy -

What you want to do is what the Data Collection module does - they do not even need to enter the times, the work station acts as a time clock so they scan in when they start and scan out when they are done.

That is what I want, Lynn, for the reader to work like the DC program without the computer terminal that requires them to type in the work order # and sequence number.  Others have been looking at some pretty basic bar code readers and I can see we will have to spend more to get what I want.  Thanks for your input. If you are going to use the DBA Data Collection, you just need a wedge bar code reader plugged into the keyboard port of the workstation.  It comes with a "Y" plug so the keyboard plugs into one side and the bar code gun plugs into the other.  That way, the computer really doesn't know nor care whether the input was typed or scanned.

See http://www.istechsupport.com/ts_mq8.asp for a list of hardware - granted, it is a few years old so some of the models have probably been replaced by newer ones.
