We also use indirect work orders to accummulate costs on new assets or major asset repairs and for "departmentalized" indirect labor. I only have one indirect labor figure on my GL, but I use WO to departmentalize. For the indirect labor, we want to know what time/$ has been spent where, so we set up a routing for example in our forge department, we have a routing that has such things as M&E maint. & Repr; T&D Repair; change boards; cleanup/janitorial; lift truck operator; training; light up. We use certain series of work order #'s so all of one type will be together ie: 105-1, 105-2 etc. are the annual work orders for the indirect labor. 500-5 to 599-99 are the work orders for new equipment or major repairs. 700-1 to 999-99 are the work orders for tool & die.
