2k3 Migration and Pervasive Question
01/14/05 at 08:37:37

All,

We are using DBA with ISTech updates and Pervasive 200i. We are going to need to move to a 2k3 server in the next couple of months and I'm not clear on what to do about Pervasive.

1. Will there be a cost incurred if we upgrade to the newer version?

2. If we upgrade will we need to reinstall Pervasive on all our work stations?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

George

Yes, there is a cost to go to v8. Contact DBA directly for that.

And yes you need to upgrade the server and also upgrade the workstations.

IS Tech is also licensed to sell PSQL 8 upgrades or additional seats so you don't have to go to DBA.  For that matter you can buy direct from Pervasive but they charge full list price.

I do know that there are a number of DBA users that have WIN 2003 server and have not upgraded the Pervasive to 8 and it works fine even though Pervasive would of course like to sell you the upgrade.

According to one person I spoke to at Pervasive, there may be performance benefits of PSQL 8 over 2000i even with the Transactional engine that DBA uses but I have not seen any actual test results or run any benchmark tests myself.

We upgraded to 2003 server nearly a year ago but did not have to upgrade pervasive.  We had a few issues to resolve but I don't think they were pervasive issues.
