BOM Remarks and Comments
02/03/05 at 13:07:05

We're currently using DBA 2002.4.  We are a manufacturer of power converters.  In our BOM we use remarks for special procedures (part installed backwards, 2 in parallel, etc, etc).  However, we also use BOM Notes (I believe these are also comments) for tracking changes that we've made in the past.  I've made a special RTM that prints out labels for parts bins and it would seem as though Remarks and Comments are classified as the same thing even though there are two seperate questions for it in WO-C (Print Travelers).  Only one of the questions affects both Remarks and Comments (Notes) while the other question seems to do nothing.  Am I missing something?  Is there anything I can do to print just the Remarks?

Remarks and Notes are stored in their own files and are linked to the bom.  They are entered in BM-A.  These transfer to the work orders.  Remarks are associated with individual parts and print under the component on the traveler.  The Notes are associated with the entire bom and print at the top of the bom on the traveler.

Both Remarks and Notes are not static.  Meaning if you change them after a work order has been made then the work order will change too if printed again. (which I think should be changed but that's another thread  Smiley)

Comments are associated with the work order only.  They are entered in WO-K-B and will print below the component under the remarks.  These are static since they are associated with the work order only.

Ok, now that the terms are clarified, any way to solve the problem at hand?  The problem is that both Remarks and Notes print on the traveller and I only want the Remarks to print.

Well, until Lynn & Co make it an option at printing, you could make modify the RTM and make the field invisible.  I think others do this for other fields and have been successful.

The problem is that the form only has the one field.  I think the same field is used for Notes and Remarks.  If this is the case, then I guess there is no way to do what I want it to do.

Sorry.  You're right.  They are the same field in the RTM.
