He was answering a previous post.  You should not end that process.

We're running 2000i SP4, have a clean PVSW log and don't seem to have performance issues at our workstations (no lock-ups) but NTDBSMGR is consuming 64,000K on server and CPU spikes to 100% when I open a screen in DBA.

Guess I'd like to know if this is normal.

A Typo maybe 64,000K our is hogging 248,400K. Max CPU with all server activity is 43%. Maybe our Dual 3.2ghz Zeon's with 2 Gig DDR400 ram has something to do with it. Our Evo runs amazingly fast. All workstations 2.8ghz 1 gig ram.

We are using Pervasive 2000i SP4, what are the optimal configuration settings for server & client? It seems there is a memory leak on NTDBMGR.exe and we have been running out of resources. We have to reboot the server once or twice a week. Any help would be appreciated!

This problem is driving me crazing.  We are running NT4.0 SP6 and Pervasive V8.50 build 189.

The Pervasive web site shows a SP3 available which is v8.7 build 014.  It doesn't specifically list solving this NTDBSMGR problem, but its worth a shot.

Anyone had problems or success with SP3?

Thanks, Jason

We are running the same problem.  We are running 2KSP4 Server and all workstations are on XPSP2.  I upgraded my RAM on the server to 3G and it now just uses all 3G of RAM.

We have to reboot the server twice a day.  Is it possible that a recent ISTS upgrade did something, because we have never had this problem until the past month???

I went out and upgraded my Persavie to the latest service pack, however we still have the problem with only six users logged in today.

Help!!! ???

We continue to have this problem and still have to reboot 1-2 times per week. I have not done any IS Tech upgrades since 12/15/2004. I wish SOMEONE ??? could help with this.

I updated to the latest SP3 from Pervasive.  We also need the update on all of the workstations.  So far 1 day no problems.  I will keep you posted.

Ragine - it is a Pervasive issue, not IS Tech specifically.  If you have WIN 2003 as the server Operating System, it may be advisable to upgrade to Pervasive 8 or 9?  Pervasive 2000 was developed prior to WIN 2003 and even with the latest SP may have problems.

Once we updated all of the workstations with SP3, we have not seen the problem repeat.  ntdbsmgre.exe is still the #1 memory request on the server, however I don't know what is reasonable or what our history was in the past.  I just know that our server does not lock up anymore in the afternoon.  Grin

I also posted information on pervasive's tech forum and got emails from other users who do not use DBA.  They reported the same problem in their applications.  So the problem seems to be with the pervasive engine.

I finally upgraded from Pervasive 8.5 to 8.7 (SP3) and the process has not locked up since then - that was about a month ago.

August 10, 2006 Update: Still running - not a single incident with ntdbsmgr since I upgraded to 8.7.
