Serial Help...
05/16/05 at 14:45:32

Is it possible to import scanned, bar-coded serial numbers into DBA for packingslip/invoicing purposes?  We are not currently using the serial control function of DBA, mostly because we are not sure if it would work for our specific application.  We would warmly welcome any help into this matter.  Our volume has gotten so high that we are running into many errors in transmission of number from Loader>Paper> Packing slip.  Since the Serial numbers we are using are already coded, it just makes sense to try and use them in DBA.  Same could be said about scanning part numbers for inventory control.  Thanks for any help!

I believe ISTS is working on providing some of these capabilities in a future enhancement.

If you use a wedge bar code reader, then you can scan anything you would otherwise type, the computer doesn't know the difference so no special programming is needed.

We use bar coded Packing Lists and Work Orders on a daily basis.

Shipping scans in a Packing List to bring shipping information up on
our shipping computer.

Production People scan in Employee Numbers, Work order numbers
and sequence numbers for data collection.

We only have 1 item that we serial control.  The Serial control in DBA
is so cumbersome that we don't have enough time in the day to deal with more than 1!!!
Hopefully, one day, Serial Control will become a priority to streamline.

OK perhaps based upon Lynn's post, I was wrong. undecided

I think KMW was talking about the ability to use bar-code reading for functional material movement tracking. i.e. scan a bar code on a package/box as it goes through shipping and have it credit inventory with likely a second set of bar codes for the customer and the order information that the system would then update the sales order as shipped and so on.

I had thought that ISTS was planning to do something along these general lines, but apparently not.
