Data Collection
07/07/05 at 12:07:51

We have recently installed scanners for data collection and are having problems with the bar code reader picking up the work order number correctly. We have tried many settings and still does not resolve the problem. Employee numbers and sequences are read just fine. Help!

How are you printing your barcode #?  Is it a report/label you created or by someone else (i.e. DBA's WO Traveler)?  If it's your own, what type of code are you using?  If DBA's report, do we know what type it prints and whether your scanner supports that type?

I have scanned WO #'s in the past but created my own label, not DBA's barcode.  If it may be helpful, I can look up what type I used...let me know.

The major problem is when the scanner tries to read the prefix and then goes to next field for the suffix. It only gets the number correct about 50% of the time or doesn't read the suffix at all.

Try increasing the size of the field and font in Modify Forms. And increase the seperation SLIGHTLY between the two fields as well.

Did you ever get this probelm resolved?

I am now confronted with the same problem.  When the bar code is read from the traveler, it fills in the left area of the work order number field on the DC screen and pauses in the right area.

The strange thing here is that it was previously working, right out of the box.  I have tried resetting the bar code reader to factory defaults as well as the recommendation to change the bar code form width in DBA.  It feels like I have tried everything, but I'm thinking that there is a simple solution.  Do you know of any?  Any help is appreciated!

There is an intercharacter delay setting you may need to increase.  The bar coded entry for work order 123456-123 is actually 123456123 and you need to allow the system time to process the automatic carriage retunr between the 6 and the 1.  If you have Evo, you could modify the form to print the prefix and suffix bar codes separately and scan them separately.

Thanks Lynn, that worked great!

I set the "Data Transmission Timing" from the factory default of "none" to "short medium" and the bar code scan for the work order number completes correctly.

Thanks again,

Super necro on this thread, my apologies.  We are late to the game on DBA barcode scanning, and I see this same issue.  I'm curious about adjusting the intercharacter delay.  Is this a setting in DBA?  Or with the wedge scanner?

It is a scanner setting.
