To EVO or Not to EVO

We are a small company with few users. I was wondering what are the advantages to stepping up to EVO. I know about the numeric keypad use and the multiple windows, but that alone doesn't seem enough for us to make the move. We have a lot of forms that have been heavily customized that we would have to do all over for EVO, so we are trying to find out all the pros and cons.

Just my two cnets worth, but I'm testing a single license of Evo and the multiple windows were great, a lot easier to work with than the Classic interface. Switching was easy, I can go back and forth from Evo to Classic at will, but soon you'll not want to go back! (Then again, I don't have many custom forms and we still use Classic to print those for now) But the best feature of all is the speed. Most of the reports and time intensive routines are MUCH FASTER in Evo. I agreed to let another user try out Evo, then took it back after waiting to post 2,000 G/L Entries. Evo only takes about 10-15% of the time! Grin

We have used DBA since 1998. The switch to EVO was a great move. Setting up 10 users didn't take too long. Forms were easy to recreate. It is soooo worth the effort.

Much faster in most things.
Can leave a report running while you do other tasks in EVO.
Leaving windows open to switch to other tasks.
E-Mail directly fron inside EVO.
A better look and very customizable menus.
And Lynn paying we to say this. Grin

We've been fiddling around with TAS6 Evo for almost a year, but I never felt that it was quite ready for prime time. We found that we absolutely had to have it for our Terminal Services users, but I was the only regular user on the local network.

I have just finished evaluating Evo-ERP and am happier with this version. It is faster and steadier, eliminating some of my problems from the earlier version. Plus, it has all of the previously mentioned benefits over DBA. I am just finishing the forms changes, and that has not been too painful. I actually wound up modifying my forms more than they had been previously, just because the form tool makes it relatively easy.

We are on the small side also, with an 8 user license. I spent a Saturday or two changing the forms I had customized. I think you can do something to use the Classic forms until you can change them over, but talk to Lynn for that info.

How is it a better look? I got the demo version and the menu screens looked pretty plain. What do you mean by customized menus?

You can add, move, delete any menu call item. If you wanted only one dept to have only the programs they use you can do that. It removes the item all together not just denied access. Well the look in EVO is just a little less of a DOS look. You should have seen DBA back in '98, OUCH!

You can even use a combination of Evo and Classic users indefinitely.

I'll throw my 2 cents in the pot...

I LIKE IT...

All of our standard forms are customized (SO, ACK, PACK, INV, STMTS, PO, Checks & PR checks) and it wasn't a hassel to re-create them.

Also, the customized menus make it all worth it. If you don't know what you're locked out of.... you don't try and fine a way in. (In other words, if you don't have a payroll button... you don't know that there should be one.)

Unless you accidentally remove the user's menu, and then it uses the DEFAULT one.....

Actually, I'm now wondering if you delete the DEFAULT one will it just not let a user log in if there is no menu assigned to them?
