BOM setup Question
10/21/05 at 05:17:00

I have a general question that I am sure some of you folks out there can help me with. I have been setting my system up for some time now and have it running pretty well. However, I seem to be running into a problem that I cannot get my head around.

We are a manufacturer and we sell our products to distributors. Some of the products we sell are part of an overall system "F" and therefore have a BOM to include all cables, manuals, etc. But, these parts can also be sold individually. Therefore, I assigned the individual parts as "A" for assemblies which include cables and appropriate items. This is a "good thing" BUT, some of these parts are also part of other systems, in which case, the cables would be different.

All that being said, my question is this, is there any way to easily leave off a component in a workorder when I generate one or to do a "quick change" without affecting the whole BOM? Am I going to have to enter in a whole new part number and edit the BOM for each instance or is there a better way I am just not seeing?

Thanks to anyone who can help to "unclog the drain".

You can modify any work order BOM in WO-K-B and the change only affects the WO and not the standard bill for the part. This does also affect the average vs standard cost for the part, so if it is a big change in cost you might want to make a new part number.  However if you are just substituting, say, one cable with a different one, same, or close to same, cost, then WO-K -B works great.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Cathy. It does. My problem was that I was trying to not have to create 4-5 different part numbers for the same equipment with only minor differences. It just gets confusing when you have so many different versions of the same thing. I have tried to handle most of these issues by adding the modifying part as part of the final assembly. This worked for most parts, but there were a few that I couldn't do that since it is used differently in several types of systems. I will try this and see where I go.Thanks for the advice.

You may want to look at Features and Options.  You could assign a base part number that includes the common items, with the different cables and such being options. You then "build"  the finished product when the sales order is entered.  F&O in EVO-ERP has its limits, but hopefully with Lynn and her associates help, it will get better.
