Classic MRP & Scheduling vs. NG MRP & Sche
01/20/06 at 08:58:16

Can someone explain to me the improvement in MRP and Job Scheduling between DBA Classic and Next Gen?  To me it seems that both Classic and Next Gen have the same features.  Classic MRP suggest WO's, PO's and RFQ's.  Next Gen MRP suggests Jobs and PO's.  Classic MRP includes the "convert SO's to WO's" function.  Next Gen MRP includes the "Job Creation from Sales Order lines" function.  Classic has the "Generate PO's" function while NG has the "Buy for Job Planning" function.  Also, both have forecasts and both have stock item MRP settings (reorder level, qty, lead time, supplier/vendor, etc.).

With regards to scheduling, both programs use simple lead-time based scheduling.  Is there something I am missing here?  Aren't these two products functionally the same thing?

oh no.

mrp in classic / evo, blows down thru All levels of a BOM.

next gen mrp does not. it's one level at a time.

every thing else you described, is, well, there in the programs. but as far as the two products being functionally the same thing, you might get some disagreements.

hth,
