What is going on with the location file???
01/25/06 at 08:16:25

I posted a disappearing location thread under the "Item" section earlier today. After looking into our system further, I am finding locations called "WORK ORDER" showing up for certain parts - they now have the normal "blank" location as well as a "WORK ORDER" location. Is this normal with the most recent updates - I looked at old data file copies and this location is not present.

Please reply with any updates/suggestions concerning this.

Thanks

Keith

Keith,  Have you updated to the 1/12/2006 version and turn on warehouse control?

No I haven't. I'm not interested in wharehouse control but if that will fix the problem then I do it.

What about the mysterious vanishing location records ? Will the patch fix this also?

Thanks

Keith,

Thanks to you and the "WORK ORDERS" tip, we found the bug, fixed it, then severely chastised the programmer for it.  embarrassed   Will be in a patch very soon. and a utility to clean up the bogus entries will soon follow.

Note: The WO-D program is the problem.

I just got back from a week off and we have several items with this problem of WORK ORDER location also.  I know we had this problem right after the 11/18 update I did on 12/03.  I consolidated inventory locations at that time and it fixed the problem, although I had to add the company name to the new blank location generated by this routine.
We do not use warehouse control and don't intend to.  We rarely print a pick list either(WO-D).  The quantities for these parts in this location are 0, and the parts also have the normal balnk location with the correct quantities.  Is the fix for this available yet, and without doing the whole 1/12 update?  (I never do an update at the end of the month-  there is too much going on!)

Is there any way I could get an answer today-  we run the reconcile tomorrow and I am going to get a new location WORK ORDER in the location master file unless I do something to get rid of these phantom locations in BKICLOC today.
I lied when I said we don't print Pick Lists.  I don't, but others do, and when I tested it in the test company, WO-D did insert the WORK ORDER location in the BKICLOC file for all the parts printed in the pick list.  Sorry for the misleading statement in my previous reply! embarrassed

NovaZyg, do you have the patch file?  Lynn is too busy, I ask her two week ago and still didn't get any answer from her.  Thanks!

Did anyone get the promised utility program that will "fix" the blank (bogus) entries?

I downloaded and installed the 01/12 update and that fixed the problem --  I suppose if you don't want to load that update for some reason, you could unzip the update to a file and copy the latest bkwod.run program into your dba folder.
Lynn, or Alan, would this work?

It may have fixed the problem, but it did not do any cleanup....

Well, I had already been through this once before, when I didn't know what was doing it and I fixed it by doing a global replace UT-K-B in the bkicloc file-- I replaced "work order" with a blank.  (There was no work order location in the master file since we had not run the master reconciliation, which will put the location in the master file when it comes across transactions with work order as the location.)

PS field to replace is bkicloc.code

Doing a replace will leave duplicate records in BKICLOC.   There is a cleanup utility that will be made available very shortly.

I know I left transactions in the bkicloc file with the replace but the values for the entries were all 0 so I just left them there.  I'm sure a clean-up utility would be the better way to get there.  Just don't run the reconcile inventory routine before you clean up or you will get a new location in the master file that has to be dealt with also.

Cleanup utility has been posted - www.istechsupport.com/dl/islocfix.zip.  Unzip to DBAMFG and run ISLOCFIX (ISLOCFIX.RUN in Evo) at UT-A.  Will delete the "Work Order" location records and, if BLANK is not a valid Location for your company, will also delete Blank Location records.
