Manufacturing Extension Program
02/10/06 at 13:16:18

During the ISTS event in Phoenix, we spoke with several companies about services we receive(d) from a company called MMEC (Montana Manufacturing Extension Program). They have provided ideas on lean manufacturing, routings, etc.  We feel they have been a true asset to our business.

The following website is for the entire MEP (Manufacturing Extension Program): http://www.mep.nist.gov/

On this site, there is a map in the upper right-hand corner that leads to a link to find the nearest MEP center.

Note: Not all centers are organized like MMEC (Montana's group). They may have different types of engineers or field services staff.  For instance, they may have a lean expert that just does lean for the state or an ISO expert doing quality systems.  Also, billing is most likely different from state to state.

Anyway... it was great meeting everyone.

We too have benefitted from our MEC. I actually learned about it through social contact whose wife is one of the directors. Ours has even done some stuff for us for free - like helping us do flow analysis when we were laying out our new shop. They also do a lot with lean and have put some great workshops on with very qualified speakers.

Definitely something worth checking out.
