Functionality of Query Module
05/14/06 at 15:47:17

I am still using DBA Classic with IS Tech's updates.  I hope to upgrade to EvoERP soon, but I haven't quite convinced the owner to shell out the $$$ just yet.  I am intrigued by the new Query Module.  There is virtually no info about it on Lynn's website, and the downloadable demo of Evo only has the Nov05 update, and I can find no reference to it on any menu or in the help file.  I assume this means the Query Module was added after Nov05.  Currently I have to write all custom queries ahead of time in Access including setting up the query and then field filters on a form for the front-end and the report on the back-end.  This is, of course, quite time consuming, and I'm the only one here who understands how to do any of it.

So, if there are any Evo users who have a minute, please reply and give me some info on the capabilities and functionality of the new Query Module.  Can the user add any fields that he/she wants.  Filter options?  Sort options?  Grouping/subtotaling options?

Thanks for your time!
Chris

Chris,

The Queries that the system can do are in the form of lookups (or Grids) the Grids can be customized by the end user.  I.e. add, remove or change the order of fields.  Add or remove Sorts (indexes). It cannot make new indexes the index must already exist.

During a lookup you can specify up to 10 of your own Filters per lookup. Filters do not get saved so this is not a static query builder. But you can print the results of the query. Filter operators are =, <>, >, <, >=, <=, and $ (sub string). A Totals button was added to the Query screen as well but has not been added to the Print yet.  Also this is a drill down query. You can drill from one file to the next based on file links that again, can be set up by the users (default links are sent out with our post).

Example: Inventory lookup shows Item numbers, Description, UOH, etc. The sort order can be set to Description, or User defined or Item Number etc. You can filter for description $ RED  this will show all items that have the letters RED in the description. Then from there you can add more filters to show UOH > 100.  That will filter the list to show items that contain RED and have a UOH > 100. From there you can press Print to print the data, or press Totals to get totals. Then you can Drill Down to BOM. This will show you the BOM of the part you drilled down from. From there you can Drill down again to somewhere else or drill back up to the Inventory.  And so on, and so on.

Hope this helps.

It does indeed!  While it may not be exactly what I was hoping it would be, it may well be an easy way to get a quick and dirty summary of info with less fuss and time than messing around with Access or even Query Builder/Excel.

Thanks for the info!

Yes, it is.. We did not set it up with the default Drill menu we send out but it is possible. Just use SU-B and add your own links. What Info are you looking for?

Log in as ADMIN in Evo and it is under the new Queries Menu. You need to be on the latest updates.  You can Also add it to users menus using TAS-G in Evo.

I have found a bug with the $ sub string filter that I have corrected and while I was in there decided to add the totals to the printing. I should have that done soon and a patch will be out soon.

We would like to be able to look up what serial numbers are available (by location) in IN-A and perhaps get a historical listing of serial numbers shipped within a time period and to which customers.

Ultimately, we really need to be able to look up the serial number by customer, as well. Perhaps SO-I could be given this query ability so that we could cross-reference the serial numbers with dates sold, dates returned, etc.
