Freight added to item cost
05/25/06 at 10:53:26

We purchase sand from 2 sources, 1 is local and the sand is more expensive but the freight is relatively cheap, about 1/4 the cost of the sand.

The other is about 200 miles away and the sand is much cheaper but the freight is twice the cost of the sand.

I can set up 2 POs to receive the sand, but what is the best way to get the cost of the freight to reflect in the cost of the sand.

To somewhat complicate things, when we get the sand from the distant supplier, we use different carriers and the freight charge is different.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want the freight reflected on the actual part number for the sand then you could wait until the invoice comes in and just put the total of the sand plus the shipping and that will increase/decrease the average cost of the sand part number. Obviously this will only work if the freight is charged by the company invoicing you for the sand. This is how we do it for our parts so that the cost of the freight is part of the item cost.

Unfortunately, we have to hire the shipping company and pay them direct.
