When you use CM for quotes you have to know the ID, because it won't be in the lookup. Also, if you use a different format or range of codes for contacts and change them when they become a customer, note that changing the contact code (CM-J) will not change the code on the quote and you won't be able to get at it. You have to first make them a customer and then use SM-J-M to change the Customer Code (which takes a LOT longer than CM-J). As for using another ID and overwriting the name/address, that's a good idea. We have a few "generic" accounts for walk-ins and other such expected one-time customers that could be used for that.
