New Hampshire Registration
07/17/06 at 17:14:57

Details and registration information for the New Hampshire Training and Symposium are at http://www.istechsupport.com/sept06symp.asp.  For those in other parts of the country, we are still planning Chicago in October, and tentatively Southern California in January and Florida in February.

Lynn,

I was planning on going to the Chocago Training and Symposium in October. I was wondering if the prices for that meeting date were looking to be about the same as the New Hampshire Training and Symposium prices.

Yes, I anticipate the pricing and basic agenda to be about the same.  Just haven't finalized a facility to hold it in.  The less expensive hotels in Schaumburg area don't have conference rooms big enough but the places like the Hyatt want $185/night room rate which is a bit steep for people coming in from out of town and if you don't stay at the same place as the class, then you are pretty much forced to rent a car.

If anybody local to the area has a suggestion, I am all ears!  We had 75 people at the Phoenix Symposium so while I suspect this won't be quite that big, a room that only holds 25 probably won't cut it.

Lynn,

This is just a thought and there maybe reasons I don't know about for wanting to have this in Chicago, but if the location didn't really matter, I would say why don't we just do the Training in another location. Maybe Kansas City, Omaha, or Des Moines. Just a thought, let me know what you think.

Lynn,

Are the agendas for the Chicago & New Hampshire trainings going to be like Phoenix?  Should I attend either or both of these, or wait for 2007 dates?

Training will be essentially the same agenda as Phoenix.

The Symposium will be similar but there is some new stuff that will be introduced and I don't think Tim will be there to show us all how to run DBA on a Blackberry like he did in Phoenix.  Although he is certainly more than welcome if he wants to come!

The Nashua training and symposium is for sure.  Still working details for Chicago.

If you are interested in Nashua, the special hotel reservation rate for rooms is only held until August 26.

No, it will not. At least not that you can count on.  They say it is available in the lobby and public areas so it is likely you will be able to pick up a stray signal but you should not depend on it.

On a related note, I see that we are supposed to have a functional DBA installation for the CR training. Is there a basic tutorial for setting up a copy of an existing installation somewhere? It's been so long since I first installed DBA, and there have been so many updates and revisions I don't even know where to start.

Install Pervasive Workgroup to your laptop.  You can download a 30 day trial of Workgroup V9 from the Pervasive website or purchase from IS Tech for $25.

Copy DBAMFG from your server to the laptop.  Run DBAMFG\GATEWAY.EXE to reset the Gateway to the Laptop Computer.

For DBA Classic, browse to the DBAMFG\Workstation Setup folder and run SETUP.EXE

For Evo, browse to DBAMFG and run EVOERP.EXE to get the icon.

I ran Gateway, and something happened, but all I saw was a brief flash of a small dialog box and it was gone. I was expecting to have to tell it where the data was, or does it HAVE to be in the DBAMFG directory? If so is there a directory structure that has to be followed, or are the data files just supposed to be in the DBAMFG folder directly?

Anyways, when I attempt to start Evo I get the following:

Error # -1210
Error # 83801
Transaction Error
Invalid transaction file - run recovery utility
C:\ISTS\TASPRO7.LOG

Then the license screen shows briefly and another error message - Access violation at xxxxx in evoerp.exe, read of adress xxxxx.

The relative path to the data files is stored in the FILELOC.B file which is in DBAMFG.  So the program will know where the data is.  The Gateway program is so Pervasive knows what workstation is the "server".

I have never seen the error you describe.  Can you run DBA Classic on the laptop?

I think the problem is that in our "normal" installation, the program is in E:\DBAMFG and the data is in F:\DBA\[company number]. On the laptop everything is on c:\

I ran DBA Classic setup, but there are no company names listed, only [number] and "Your Company Name". I can select a company, but for instance when I try to run SO-A I get

"An error has occured while trying to open file F:\DBA\VH\ISIS.BVH - 11".

David,

Your fileloc is pointing to the wrong data path.. in classic use UT-D and press the change all locations. You can then specify the path to the data per company there.

Well, we're getting somewhere, just not sure where.

I was able to run UT-D in Classic and change the location. However I am still having problems (I verified that it did actually change the location by going back to the main UT-D screen and did a lookup on file name - it shows all the .bvh files as in the local directory).

I get the same error message in SO-A as before for my real company. The Default Company seems to work fine, but if I try to change back, there is nothing listed in the drop-down, as if there is only one company.

I can change to any of the other companies (from the normal one), but get the same behavior as in my real one, including the exact same message that I get in SO-A in my real company referring to C:\DBA\VH\ISIS.BVH, even though UT-D still shows the data for the other companies as on drive F:\

Also, if I stay plugged into the network, DBA is VEEERRRYYY slow. Like 10 seconds to draw the menu buttons when you change menus, and up to 30 seconds to open a program.

OK, I've got Classic to work, by completely re-installing everything and putting my real data right in the DBAMFG directory (and using UT-D to say it's there). Still having the same problem with Evo, though I guess it really doesn't matter for this "installation". I'm not going to waste too much more time on it anyways.

I'm having similar issues.  I installed Pervasive workgroup, and copied over the DBA files into C:\dbamfg and one company (we don't need/want to put all the companies' data on the laptop).  Ran the gateway program, something flashed and then nothing.  Ran the Evoerp setup, that went OK.  Launched EvoERP and after clicking on OK to log in, I get the following errors:

first window:
Error
FILEOPEN ERROR
Error Number 12
Filename:  bksysmstr
program name:  c:\dbamfg\evoerpmenu.rwn
EXE path:  c:\ists\
This prorgram will now end.

Can only click OK, and I then get this error:

WARN ERR:  FILE:  ADV60.LIB   Line:  2255
You can't quit from a modal form.
Check your trap ESC commands.

Again, can only click OK< and I then get this error:

WARN ERR - File:  Evoerpmenu.src, line: 680
an error message record was not found in the errmsg.b file  404.

click on OK, etc. same stuff.  Have to CTRL-ATL-DEL out.

Tried Classic setup, which ran OK, but when I launch Classic is gives me the license has expired, etc. etc. and so no go there.

How to fix? Do we really have to have DBA running, or just the files present for Crystal usage?

Error 12 is file not found.  It may be looking for the folders for all the companies, not just the one you brought over.  Create the subfolders for all your companies and just copy over the BKSYMSTR file for each one to its appropriate folder.

I was figuring it was looking for all the folders.  Didn't think of just creating the folder and copying over the file.  I will give that a try!

generally, after installing the pervasive wge, all you have to do is copy the entire DBAMFG and all it's subdirectories.
then run the setups. however, if your laptop is used to accessing the server copy of evo or dba, then you already have an ISTS folder. which means you need a different one to point to the local copy.

also, david. it is usually best that the program and data reside on the same drive on the server. i'd say your ok as long as both drives are being serviced by the pervasive engine. but it's not the normal configuration.

if anyone needs assistance setting up their local copy, i'll be available all this week to assist. just call me. or email  davemeng@earthlink.net 760-832-2536

Hi Dave,

Neither of these laptops has had Pervasive installed before, or been used with DBA or Evo.  It's a real fresh setup.  I did go in and create the folders as Lynn suggested, and copied over the bksysmstr to each, renaming the extension.  I no longer get the error 12, but I do get what David gets, an access violation error after clicking on OK at login:

Access violation at address 00405880 in module "evoerp.exe. Read of addess 00000066

And then I obviously can't run it.  But I can use the classic once I ignore the license expir message.

Thanks,

Val,
what version of pervasive did you install?

sometimes, the cache engine can make that error go away. actually i think it just hides it.

but go into the pervasive control center, locate in the configuration, for the cache allocations, or use cache engine. (depends on the version) turn it on. apply the changes.

i did that for some workstations, various operating systems, some got that error some did not. i was unable to chase it down. but setting the cache allocation / engine made the difference.

I installed the 30 day demo - 9.5 with whatever SP it comes with.  One is XP Home, the other is XP Pro. Both have the identical problem.

I'm not going to spend a huge amount of tiime here, it's just not worth it.  I've got a boatload of other stuf to be doing.  How much are they going to have to use DBA\Evo? They're supposed to be learning Crystal! So can they just live with Classic for the training?????

I can't see why not. I wouldn't think you'd even need to be able to run Classic, but maybe. Could certainly be helpful if some data needed to be added to make a report work or something.

The Pervasive, Crystal, and DBA/EvoERP installs to these laptops are going to be removed immediately after training, as they are not intended for this use.  We only borrowed them for this symposium.  So please don't waste time trying to figure it out, as it's all being wiped off anyway.

Thanks for the offer, though!

Update:  I did get EvoERP successfully working on the machines.  I went in and updated the DDFs in Classic just to make sure they were ready for the Crystal.  For some reason  that seemed to do it!

So they will have working EvoERP installs on their machines, in addition to Crystal 8.5.

That was really an excellent event. Well worth the time. I highly recommend the Crystal Reports training, too. The peek into the future of Evo was very helpful. Knowing that IS Tech is listening and actually working on our issues gives strong incentive to stick with this system for the long haul.
