DE-S Import Image Links
07/25/06 at 10:03:46

A couple of issues I ran into after I imported Image Links using DE-S:

1. I'm using a Global Link Path for all images. But when I look at the link page (IN-B Links - Edit), the global path doesn't show next to the "Use the Global Link Path - Y".  It will only show up when I tab through the field, then I have to save for the change to take effect.  A given image won't show up until I have done this.

2. I read a post on the perks of using .pdf files instead of .jpg files for image links, and now I'd rather use .pdf's. So, I reimported using .pdf extension names instead of .jpg. I now have both .jpg and .pdf links.  How can I do a mass delete of the .jpg links (or just a mass delete of all image links so I can start over)?

Looking at the screenshots you sent me off the forum, you need to use upper case Y for the "Use Global Path" in the import.  I know, the program should be smarter, already working on that...

As for clearing it all and starting over, you can initialize the BKQTTEMP file to delete all links and start over with a new import.

Thanks Lynn.  I initialized the file and re-imported with upper case "Y".  Then I just had to put the default path back in, and everything works great!

First let me say thanks for whoever created this and all the people that contributed to it over the years. The fact that I am reading through posts from almost 20 years ago (that still apply) is a testament to the application as well as the current support! I have only been working with DBA for a couple of years and most of my knowledge is gleaned from this site ...so I am extremely apprehensive about doing anything that might break the app or cause a loss of data. That being said, we recently move our image files from one drive to another and now I need to update the links in all the Item references.
I used this query in the SQL Editor to obtain a list of all the items that contained links
SELECT BKQTTEMP.BK_DESC_CODE, BKQTTEMP.BK_DESC_DESC, BKQTTEMP.BK_DESC_LINE,
      BKQTTEMP.BK_DESC_NOTES, BKQTTEMP.BK_DESC_NUM
FROM   BKQTTEMP
Through this log, I found the DE-S option in DBA (but not EVO) and was able to test updating one of our entries successfully. My questions now are
1) how to "initialize the BKQTTEMP file to delete all links and start over with a new import."
2) any other concerns or gotcha's that I need to look out for
Thanks in advance for any help from the newbie

Additional question now that I am playing with DE-S... when I run the pgm it will upload the information correctly for only the first line item...anything else is ignored...any help is appreciated

Example contents of CSV

More replies to myself... I was able to get DE-S to work(upload all the multiple lines) using Evo instead of DBA....had to the find the program/menu for the program and add it to my ID.

Now back to my original questions
1) how to "initialize the BKQTTEMP file to delete all links and start over with a new import."
2) any other concerns or gotcha's that I need to look out for - want to ensure there is not a way for me to initialize/delete a critical file

Lynn responded with the answer...
for anyone else it is "TAS-E in Evo.  Enter the file name and extension and the rest of the fields will populate."
