Phantom assemblies
07/27/06 at 13:47:45

I have a new purchase order from my customer to build 3 subassemly's.  Each subassembly is made up of 30-40 parts.  I identified each subassembly as a subassemlby in my inventory and I listed each component as a phantom assembly and I built a bill of material with the items.  Now I am not able to create multiple routers for the components and I am not able to create PO's for the components.  What is the best way to create subassembly's without having to generate indivdual work orders for each component?

Make each sub assemblies type A if you want to cut a work order with routings.

If you will be buying the parts make them type R   I would make them type R anyway

B if for adding a group of items to a bom with 1 entry.

You make workorders for type A items not B

Thanks for the response.  Does that mean I have to create a seperate work order for each item I will be manufacturing.  I will be buying half and making half.  Right now I have one work order for each assembly each subassembly has 30-40 parts so I should make 482-1, 482-2 ... 482-39, 482-40?

You will make a workorder for each type "A" item.

each type A item will have a BOM with the 40 items on it

And a routing for assembly where you can collect labor for the build.

if your going to build 1/2 of an order I sugest a workorder for 1/2 the qty required.

and an additional workorder for the second 1/2

use the same sales order number with

xxxxxx-1 and xxxxxxx-2 for the second 1/2
