I am having problems creating multi-assy work orders. I've tried different combinations, and everytime i try it is creating 0 qty wo. I am prompting for work order qty. Why does it do this?

After searching the forum I don't see an answer to this or other similar questions:

I'm trying to create multi-assembly WO's and prompt for quantity so I can enter 0 on WO's I don't want created after reviewing their status.

Is their a way to do this that I'm missing?  Is this on the list of things to fix?

So far it creates WO's for the the sub-assemblies I want, however it also creates 0 quantity WO's on those I don't want.

This is still on my list of problems. Has anyone looked into this?

I know for a fact that SO-N will create WO's with a quantity of zero (i.e., you have stock on hand, and enter 0 for the quantity because you don't want to make any).  This appears to be a unresolved bug.

VMan -

Sounds like you are saying Y to create Multi-Assembly WO and then are getting the 0 quantity WO for lower level assemblies.  Is that in fact the case?  If so, then it is really WO-K-D that is the problem under some set of circumstances.  How do you answer all the WO-K-D questions?

Lynn FYI - We use WO-K-D extensively.   We do not have problems with it.  (We manufacture in batch runs.)

We enter as such:
From WO 2504-1
Thru  WO 2504-999
Offset Lead Times? - N
Use Shop Calendar for Start Date? - N
Create WO only for products below reorder level?- N
Prompt for WO quantity? - N
Consider All Locs or WO Loc Only? - W
Create WO only for balance required? Y
Use Reorder Level ?- N
Use Reorder Amount ?- N

We rarely use SO-N in our company, so we have no experience with problems.

We are using SO-N and for the WO-K-D
we enter :
From WO 2504-1
Thru  WO 2504-1
Offset Lead Times? - N
Use Shop Calendar for Start Date? - N
Create WO only for products below reorder level?- Y
Prompt for WO quantity? - Y
Consider All Locs or WO Loc Only? - A
Create WO only for balance required? N
Use Reorder Level ?- N
Use Reorder Amount ?- N

On the parts we don't want to create WO for we enter 0 qty but still get a WO for 0
