T7INA.RWN
11/07/06 at 07:30:47

After pulling up an item and the fields in T7INA.RWN are populated with the appropriate data it is not possible to pull up a different item without first exiting the program (T7INA).  If I try doing it without exiting, either by typing the part number in or F2 lookup, I get 2 fatal error messages.  The first is something about trying to access a file that has not been opened (or maybe it's created) and the second has to do with passing a zero value.

For now I've switched back to the old versions due to the above and the fact that the T7 files are extremely slow loading.

I can't duplicate your problem here with the Windows version of INA, but I agree with the slowness of the program- it takes close to 30 seconds here for the screen to come up.
My purchaser isn't crazy, about the tabs, as she feels it splits up the data too much.  I showed her how to switch the view back to the older style.

30 seconds is way too long. in our tests it took 1 to 2 seconds to bring up a screen.  Is it that slow every time.. on the first load it checks to see if there is a local copy of the screen, if so it loads it. if not it copies the DFM from the server to the local drive. that initial copy may take time but no way it should take 30 seconds...

I opened and closed INA- Windows three times in a row. Each time, it took about 30 seconds to get the screen.

On the server too or only across the network?  I agree, 30 seconds is WAY too slow, we need to figure out what is going on.

ours load in 6-7 sec. every time. The Beta programs that I tested loaded a wee bit faster 4-5? Not an issue here.

I did some more testing this morning.  When only one person is logged into EVO, the Windows version of IN-A loads up in about 6 seconds.  As soon as someone else logs in, it takes about 30 seconds on either workstation.  On the P to P server, it loads in about 6 seconds all the time, so it's a network issue, I guess.

The original issue is an odd one as, nobody else get that. I do lookups all day long without error.  If you run T7SMK and turn on INA opening list. what happens then? while your at it turn on toolbar too.

I just today tested T7INA. The machine I ran it on is a 2.54Ghz P4 and the hosting machine (we're using P2P) is a 2Ghz Athlon XP. They are connected over 100Mbs ethernet. The initial load takes about 6 seconds. It's a LOT slower than bringing up the old inventory screen but maybe not intolerable.

On an unrelated note, I don't think the people here are going to like the new format. The tabs organize things nicely but it hides info from you. Before we could get most all of that info at a glance. Also, I would think that most people would want to be able to see the description and price on the same tab. Having them in seperate tabs is a bad idea because then you have to wonder if you entered in the right part # when you are looking at other data. I'd think it would be more user friendly to have the description visible from any tab. I'll try to demo the new inventory screen to people here and see what they say.

I have to agree with kkmfg. The tabs are neat, but for some people, having as much info available on one screen is preferable.  Fortunately, you can swich to the DBA view by clicking on the DBA button on the toolbar.  The program seems to remember what view was last selected and opens to that view the next time it is run.
I received newer versions of T7INA and T7INB from Lynn which solved the slow loading problem I was having.

two things,

one, the little DBA button in the top left corner will load a windows screen that has the data in the same layout as the Classic DBA for users who are opposed to change. It will remember your preference and load that screen when you call the program.

two, the description and type are written in the white bar across the top of the tabs next to the item number. The same thing applies with Cusromer name and Vendor name in APA and ARA.

They'll like that. I'll see if that makes things more acceptable to the sales people.

Oh... hehe... Sorry then. It's good that it's already like that.

Well that seems to have done the trick.  No more error msgs.  Had no idea T7SMK existed.  Is there some documentation I missed?  What are opening lists?  Thanks.

opening lists are just that.. when the program starts should it bring up a list, ie if it is on, INA and INB bring up the list of inventory parts first, WO-A will bring up a list of Work orders etc..  Using SMK you can set this up for each user, some people like the opening list some may not..
