Another S/R question
12/12/06 at 07:21:58

This time I'm growling about notes.

When we do a repair we put lots of spiffy notes about the work done in the S/R notes. When we ship the product back to the customer we want them to be able to read the notes (but not hidden notes), so we choose "Y" to Print Notes in SR-B. No notes print! I went in and looked at the form to see if the notes are visible, which they are. So, why don't they print on Packing slips?   ???

Colin,
To put it frankly, I don't currently have the time to put into desiging a procedure
around a new feature that my own experimentation along with other
peoples experience tells me is not completely working.

<Rant>
We have enough program problems now to work around.  I would really
like to stop using our obsolete and laughable paper system of handling
cusomer returns.  In order to do that, the tools have to work correctly, or
the people you try and train to use it will shut down when you can't even
get it to work right.

Lynn has done a very nice job of adding significant value to the classic product.
I have been paying for that since, almost, day one.  However, I'm concerned
that some of the more recent releases were just not quite ready
for 'prime time'.

This makes me wonder who, exactly, is testing new release features,
bug fixes, clairifications, and clean ups??

It would be nice if people could 'register' to receive 'beta' versions of, say
no more than 3 or 4 different programs along with a test
specification.  They could then test operation of just those whenever there
is a change.  With a few hundred people involved, several people could
verify operation with real world datasets.
</Rant>

I'm implementing this after having seen it demonstrated by ISTECH at the symposium and based on requests in-house to improve feedback to customers on repairs. I ran a number of tests to figure out how to use the module, but I missed a few things that are only coming out now in live testing. These are fairly petty things that should be easy to either fix or work around. I'm just a bit impatient because of deadlines. However, when you step out into the unknown you can expect a few setbacks.

All of that said, I've promised these packing slip notes to several parties and I don't want to report, "Um, I guess that feature is broken" again.

BTW, nice rant  8)

Mike is working on the Notes but we are scratching our heads.  I can duplicate the problem (Notes do not print) but Mike can not - his notes print.  So we are investigating why.
