Shipping Label
01/17/07 at 10:33:42

We need to put a description label on each item we ship. We currently have to write this out by hand and would like to automate it.  In SO-D it gives the option of header or detail information, we need info from both labels and the addition of an Item Number.  Is there anyway to combine these two labels and add the item number?  How does everyone else make labels for their products? Anyone have examples?

We print the inventory label from IN-G.  I have modified T6ING1.RTM for the outside of our boxes to identify the parts inside - I would attach it but I don't know how to attach a file to this forum - I can e-mail it to you if you'd like.

Thanks for the offer but I don't think that label would work for our needs.  The info we need to print is:

Ship To Customer
PO Number
Part Number
Description
Qty
Item Number

We put one on each bag of parts.

We have recently made the header file accessible when printing a detail label so you should be able to add information from the order header to the detail label (in Evo only) by adding the fields using the RTM editor.  I don't remember exactly when this was done so if you are on the 10/31 update and it still doesn't work, let me know and I will send the latest version.

I'll download the update and check it out.  Thank you.

BTW, is it possible to add a data field to a form that is not called up by that form?

Only if you have Evo, and then only if the data field is in a file that is opened by the print program. For instance, it would be extremely unlikely that SO-C opens BKICMSTR, so adding the CLASS to a packing slip would not be possible.

A bit of a side question relating to SO-D shipping labels.   We would like to print our labels on a Dot-Matrix printer (1-up with quantity varying per Sales Order).  However, the DBA manual says that you cannot print to Dot-Matrix if the form length is less than 11" under WinXP.  Our shipping department is currently hand-writing labels.   undecided

Are you printing your Shipping Labels with a Laser Printer or a Dot-Matrix printer?  Would you please pass along the form Manufacturer & Part# are you using?

We are setting up to use a Zebra thermal label printer.  The same basic unit that is provided by UPS for their shipping labels.

So if I understand correctly, even though the field that shows the "Bill To" customer name is not present in the shipping label, I should be able to add that field since it is used and printed on other forms?

Yes, since that field is in the Sales Order Header and that file is open during label printing, you should be able to add it to the form in Evo.  As I said, at one time only the Sales Order Line item file was open and you couldn't include Header information but we have changed that.

Lynn, I updated to the latest version and cannot get the header information to pull into the form, so I think I will need that new file.  Just to make sure I'm not going about it incorrectly, I click on the button on the right toolbar (the A with the box on top) then click on the form.  It places a box the says "DBText3".  I then go to the info window on the left, click data field and enter the field name I need.  In this case it would be BK AR INV SHPNME.  Am I doing it correctly?

Not quite.  Once you have added the data object, double click on the place where the field name would go and you should see a drop down of all the file names.  Select BKARINV and then from that select the field.

Okay, I got the ship to name to print on the label but...When I select a range of S/O's to print labels for, it puts the name that is on the last S/O of the range selected on all the labels.  Any ideas?

OK, that sounds like the program isn't updating the record pointer.  Probably the update I referred to at the beginning of this thread.  I will send you the latest SO-D that I have and if you still get the same thing, we make the programmer fix it.
