stand alone install

I posted this elsewhere in a totally inappropriate place.... it really belongs here.

I have been wondering-- is it possible to set up a separate installation of Evo on just my workstation so that I can install updates there and test before I make changes to the server version?
As it is I wait for several weeks to install updates since I have some rather faint-hearted users who don't deal well with change, especially change that isn't working.  I on the other hand am always anxious to try out the new stuff!
If this is possible, could someone walk me through it?

We found that we couldn't run a stand-alone on a computer that also used the production system, but we do have a test copy running on a separate machine. The test machine is a backup server that I access via terminal services, effectively allowing me to run both at once in different windows. Very insightful.

For a good description of how to set up a stand-alone copy for testing or training, go here: http://www.istechforum.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1153185297/11#11
