Print to Designated Paper Tray
03/20/07 at 10:46:26

We are on a Novell Network.  We have the latest version of DBA/EVO with all the patches loaded.
After the update, our users who print forms had to go back to DBA.  We use collated  colored paper for most of our forms such as invoices, packing slips, and receipt travelers.  We have special printer trays which we designate to print each form.  When we print the EVO print screen comes up.  We then have to hit the setup button so the printer screen appears.  We designate the paper tray and other information on the printer screen, then click OK and it takes us back to the EVO print window, we click O.K. and the print will not recognize the tray designation.  We cannot use our collated colored paper in EVO.  We also have to designate our printer twice instead of once. (Evo Screen and Printer Screen) .  If you could get EVO to send the paper tray designation and hold the settings, then EVO would be a big improvement for us instead of a hindrance.

Can you give me any feedback and let me know if others have experienced the same difficulty.  Will this bug be one that will be recognized and put on the list to fix?

What I have noticed is that the "Setup" in the printer dialog doesn't do anything. Even changing the printer doesn't work. In fact, the printer shown on my system as the default one is one that doesn't even exist anymore, but I can't get rid of it. The only way I can make a change from the default is to Preview it. Then when you go to print you can make changes to the Printer or Setup.

(note: per my signature I am not on the current update)

David,

It sounds like you have set a printer on the RTM form.  If that's the case,  that will always be the default printer until you remove it from the RTM.

Maggie,  I have had the same priblem.  The issue is the radio button you are on when you enter printer setup.  i.e. the first one is preview.  If that is selected and you enter setup, then close the setup window and change from preview to print, you get exactly what you describe.  However,  if you choose the print radio button first!, then go into settings for the printer, everything should work fine!

Another option, if you have smart printing devices, is to set a different value for each tray. i.e. custom r8.5x11 for tray one, b8.5x11 for tray 2 ...  and tell the print queue to auto select trays.  next in the RTM editor, use a custom paper size for the tray you want as a source.  When the RTM is run,  it will send the custom size to the rpint queue and it will use the correct tray automatically.

Not the best method but it works with HP Laserjets and Xerox Docucenters on Windows print queues.

Hope it helps,

Tim

Tim,

As far as I know, it happens with every RTM - however, we don't use them all, so unless I went through and tried each one I can't say for sure.

I just went in and checked a couple of the  RTMs that I know for sure do it, and "Default" is selected in the RTM File > Setup Form > Printer > Printer.
