Run Programs Not Located in Default Co File
03/29/07 at 05:39:21

I noticed our RUN programs are not in our Default folder (or any folder). They're just listed on the network W:\ drive.  Could this cause a potential problem?  Would it be ok to move these to the Default folder where they belong?  I'm trying to set up the ODBC connection to connect to MS Access and not suceeding at all - so starting with basics...

Thanks

Sounds like the install went to the root and not to a folder. If that is the case, more than just the Run or RWN files went their, hundreds of files would be their. Typically in the newer installs of DBA or EVO, the Default folder contains all of you *.B files and a few others. All of the other files go into the main EVO or DBAMFG folder.

Is this a new install, an update or have you been using it for awhile now? I would definitly want all the files in their own folder and not on the root drive for security and permission reasons alone.

I am not sure if this is causing your ODBC issues or not.

The Run/RWN files need to be in the same folder as the data dictionary (FILELOC.B FILEDICT.B etc..) that typically is the DBAMFG or EVOERP folder. Under that is the Data folders like default, Testdata, etc.. there are no run/rwn files in the data folders (ie default\)

Thanks for the replys.  So would it be ok to just move these folders where they should go?  Will it have an effect on our DBA system?

When you map a drive to a folder, the drive is essentially the folder. On your data drive on the server you may have a folder called DBAMFG, and when you map a drive on your workstation, and look from your workstation at the mapped drive, you will see the contents of the folder that drive represents.
So the program files (RWN and RUN files) should not be in any other folder on the drive, because on your server they are in the DBAMFG folder where they should be.
