Fix Binary Zero
05/31/07 at 05:26:06

We run Fix Binary Zeroes before running SM-J-C Reconcile Inventory On-Hand.  Due to the discrepancies that keep popping into the inventory, we have decided to run SM-J-C every week.  However, it takes well over an hour to run the Fix Binary Zeroes program first, and everyone has to be out of the system.  This is a problem because we are running data collection on the shop floor.
1)  What is the purpose of the Fix Binary Zero routine?

2)  Is there a way of "scheduling" this to run after 2nd shift finishes?  If so, how do I do it?

3)  What if the Fix Binary Zero routine isn't run every time...say maybe only once a month instead of weekly?

1. It corrects a potential problem which can prevent the system from working properly. You could get funny results from reports, things could have wrong counts, etc.

2. There is. Go to: http://www.istechsupport.com/addonut.asp

3. Probably still be ok. You probably want to run it every so often just to fix up any corruption which might have taken place but the corruption isn't guarenteed (and hopefully doesn't happen!) so I don't believe there is any set time schedule to run it. Certainly you should run it if you suspect corruption of the database records.

There was a posting I read (In the System Manager category) where Lynn said that with the changes and improvements that ISTech has made, that it isn't necessay to fun FIX Binary Zero each time.  So maybe you can bypass that step.

What version do you need to be on so you do not have to be concerned with fix binary zeros?

Rather than run "fix binary zeros", I would reindex the tables.

Note:

It is not necessary to routinely reindex the Tables. You should only do so if:

1.- You are getting error messages for that table.
2.- Suspect that the index may be damaged.
3.- If you have recently purge, archived or delete records
