Inventory in my S/R location
10/25/07 at 15:59:02

I am playing with the RMA and S/R modules in my test company.  I have set up a location (S/R) and I  brought in 4 items using the RMA module.  I converted them to a S/R order and made the one work order for 4 inot 4 work orders for 1 each.  I issued materials and labor, then released the order, and posted the invoice.  Everything looks very good so far.
However, I printed my inventory value for the S/R location  and did not expect to see anything since when I brought the items in I did not give them a price.  What I did see was negative amounts for the two items I issued to the work order.  What did I do wrong?

You need to issue (WO-G) parts to the WOs from the location where the parts reside. For instance, our inventory location is "BW" (for Bowdoin, the town we are in), and the repair location is "REP". When we run WO-G the location defaults to "REP" and we have to change it to "BW" every time.

Maybe that should go on the wish list of things to have a SD-Q setting for, eh?

It did not even occur to me to look at the location when issuing!  Selective sight....

Still, there must be something I do not have set right because:
1) when I try to back out of the WO issue (after reopening the WO) it asks "Back out of issue?" and I say yes but nothing happens- I still have a negative amount in inventory at that location.
2) If I just go into WO issue and try to enter a negative (or any) amount for the item, I do not even have access to the location field- it scrolls right past it and it is shaded.

As I recall we did have trouble one time when someone had over-issued. I couldn't fix it with WO-G so I wound up canceling everything to fix it. A better fix would be to transfer enough material from your inventory location to your repair location to zero out UOH.

Invariably my repair people forget at some point to change the location while issuing. I go back and clean things up from time to time and deliver a personal reminder to them to please remember to change the location.  Sad

Well I tried it again on a new S/R work order that had no issues before, and I definitely do not get to change the location  when issuing.  Do I have to transfer raw materials to the S/R location before issuing them?  That would not work for me.

Cathy,

Its an SD-Q setting to allow you to select the location of the components.

SD-Q, Mfg,  Specify Comp Loc in WOG/WOI  needs to be 'Y'
