Missed end of year procedure
01/14/08 at 12:10:11

I've been informed that the accounting people here forgot to run the payroll end of year procedures and have just noticed that the W-2's that they want to print (for 2007) are off by the amount that people have been paid so far this year (2008). Not being a payroll person myself I'm not sure how big a problem this is, if there really is a problem or if they are running it wrong, or what should be done to correct this. Can anyone help?

As always, It Depends....

The payroll W2 file is a copy of the payroll master file as of year end.  You can copy BKPRMSTR (from a year end backup for your company after the last payroll of the year was run) to BKPRW2 (your company) to fix the W-2's for last year but you also have the issue of  the current year being incorrect.   That is trickier.  If you don't have many employees, PR-A and edit the YTD and QTD amounts.  If you have mpre employees than you want to edit, email me, I can walk you through it.
