Active status?

Would love to see an additional option for an engineering or quality hold "H" or freeze that would not allow any activity without being changed back to active. I don't want to clear history or make the item obsolete. The current "E" engineering status, puts an alert on the screen but allows everybody to disregard and continue as usual. Need more control. If this is possible, it may make sense to provide two different flags with different messages depending whether it is engineering or quality that needs to be contacted to clear the part for future processing or shipment.

How would someone override the hold? Seems like the transaction would need to have a password pop-up, ala changing saved settings for all users, eh? It sounds like a good feature to me, as long as their is some way to override it when proper approval is obtained.

I thought that after the issue is resolved, the item status would be changed to "Y" again for normal activity, but until it is resolved, no new orders could be processed using that item code.

The issue I have is how do I prevent an order entry person from entering an order and a work order for a part that is temporarily on hold because of engineering changes or approval, but will be released at some point. If the order entry person hits a roadblock of sorts, chances are they will inquire from someone in engineering that can expidite the process and then release the part for "active" production again.

I think that H for hold would be the thing. It should act like O and not allow transactions, but should skip the checks against stock, physical inventory, etc. As to who has it on hold, that could be a note attached to the part number.

Sounds reasonable - I will add it to the list.
